Alberto Giacometti was the son of Giovanni Giacometti, a well-known post-impressionist painter. It was in his father’s studio that he was initiated into art, and at the age of 14 he produces his first works: a Still life with apples, in oils, and a sculpted bust of his brother Diego. In 1922, he went to Paris to study at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière with the sculptor Antoine Bourdelle.
